Photographic Exhibition: “The Rocks of the UNESCO Global Geopark of Vikos-Aoos under the Microscope: Aspects of their Inner World”

We are delighted to announce the organisation of the photographic exhibition titled “The Rocks of the UNESCO Global Geopark Vikos-Aoos Under the Microscope: Aspects of their Inner World”.

The exhibition takes place from 7 to 10 June at the “D. Hatzis” Cultural Space in Ioannina, as part of European Geoparks Week, which is celebrated every year during this period with various events in all European Geoparks.

The exhibition presents a collection of unique photographs depicting the rocks of the UNESCO Global Geopark of Vikos-Aoos under the microscope. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to explore the inner world of the rocks and discover the rich geological diversity that characterises this unique, UNESCO-recognised area.

The photographic exhibition is a unique opportunity for visitors to discover the beauty and complexity of the geological world and to be inspired by the area's natural heritage. Furthermore, the exhibition represents an opportunity to highlight the importance of Geoparks and to raise awareness about the need for their protection and preservation.

Geoparks are areas that combine stunning geology with cultural heritage and rich biodiversity, and are ideal places for promoting sustainable development. European Geoparks Week is being celebrated for the 23rd year this year with many events across the 94 UNESCO Global Geoparks located in 28 European countries.

The photographic exhibition on the rocks of the Vikos-Aoos Geopark is organised by the Epirus Development SA, which is the operating body of the Vikos-Aoos Geopark, and it is curated and scientifically supported by members of the Department of Geology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The exhibition's opening event will take place on Wednesday 7th June 2023 at 18:30 and the exhibition will be open to the public daily in the morning (11:00-14:00) and in the afternoon (18:00-21:00).
