An event informing about the Vikos-Aoos Geopark and its role as a UNESCO Global Geopark took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 3, 2019, in the event hall of the Mountaineering Club (EOS) of Ioannina. Members and friends of the club had the opportunity to be informed about the history of the establishment of the Vikos-Aoos Geopark, its geological characteristics and its geotopes, as well as all the unique values of the region. Special reference was made to the activities carried out by EPIRUS SA, the Region of Epirus and other stakeholders for the preservation and promotion of the Vikos-Aoos Geopark in relation to the rules and obligations of the European and Global Geoparks Network, as well as UNESCO. The briefing was given by Mr. Charitakis Papaioannou, PhD Biologist, coordinator of the Vikos-Aoos Geopark (UNESCO) and executive of the Epiros Development SA.
