A Experiential Workshop, including a trek through the Vikos Gorge, will take place on Thursday 15th June as part of the celebration of 2017 as the Year of Sustainable Tourism Development, and also of Geoparks Week.
The Seminar on Popularised Geology in the Field, as its exact title states, is organised by the Vikos-Aoos UNESCO Global Geopark and is held under the auspices of the Municipality of Zagori.
Co-organisers are the Institute of Geological and Mining Research (IGME) and Epirus Development SA on behalf of the Vikos-Aoos UNESCO Global Geopark Management Committee (EDRAGEM).
The Experiential Workshop will include a trek across the Vikos Gorge from the village of Monodendri, concluding at the settlement of Vikos. During the route, participants will be presented with the geology and hydrogeology of the gorge, and significant geotopes will be highlighted on-site by experienced geologists from the I.G.M.E., Evangelos Nikolaou and Panagiotis Paschos, scientific collaborators of the Vikos-Aoos Global Geopark.
The meeting point will be the lower square in Monodendri and participants should arrive half an hour before the start, which is scheduled for 8.30 AM on Thursday, 15th June.
The seminar is primarily aimed at eco-guides, mountain guides, rafting guides, and more generally at those involved in tourism in Zagori.

Participants in the Seminar should travel by their own means of transport to Monodendri, the starting point. At the end of the gorge crossing in the afternoon, as the route will take approximately 8 hours, they will be collected from the village of Vikos by a vehicle from the Municipality of Zagori to return by road to Monodendri and collect their cars.
