EUROPEAN GEOPARKS WEEK 2019 “Discover the Geopark – learn about geodiversity”

On Tuesday, 9 July 2019, the
programmed crossing of the eponymous gorge as part of the activities
of the Vikos-Aoos UNESCO Global Geopark, dedicated to European Geoparks Week 2019.
The participants, accompanied by expert scientists from the Geopark and the Hellenic
Hellenic Institute of Geological and Metallurgical Research, specifically Mr. Paschos Panagiotis, Geologist, and Mr. Evangelos
Nikolaou, a hydrogeologist, walked the path next to the river from the bridge
Kleidonia straight to the Papigo bridge and 
they were initiated into the secrets of the canyon's geology, hydrology and geomorphology, as well as the wider
the Vikos-Aoos Geopark area.

This event, themed «I know
The Geopark - Learning about Geo-diversity»
is the first of a
a series of events entitled «I am walking
on the mountain. »I know GeoPark"
taking place in the Vikos-Aoos Geopark during
in the month of July. A further three events will follow with the following themes: «I know the Geopark – I learn about the
'birdlife in mountainous habitats'»
to Vradeto and to the viewpoint
Vikos Gorge «Beloï» on the 17th of July,  «I know
The Geopark – I learn about the biodiversity of the Vikos Gorge»
to
Vikos village and to the Voidomatis springs on July 18th and «I know the Geopark - I learn to walk
on the mountain»
to the Baths of Amarantos and up to the Kamenik peak of Grammos at
28 July.
