The Vikos-Aoos UNESCO Global Geopark
UNESCO welcomed two volunteers from Germany as part of a new
cooperation of the Hellenic and German National Commissions for UNESCO,
which enables Greek UNESCO Global Geoparks to
host young people from Germany to carry out a six-month internship
months.
The main aim of the programme is
Young people should join the Greek UNESCO Global Geoparks and participate.
In their various activities as volunteers to gain specialised
skills and work experience in actions to promote natural and
cultural heritage of Geoparks and to understand the management methods
and their operation. The basic expenses of the volunteers are covered by the
German National Commission for UNESCO.
The Vikos-Aoos Geopark welcomed the
two volunteers in March 2021. After attending introductory
seminars on geomorphology, geology and the wider natural environment and

they began their practical training, which is shared between office work
and work in the field. They also offer valuable assistance in translating to
German language for the Geopark's interpretation texts and communication materials,
but also in promoting the Geopark through social media.

Geopark, contribution to the operation of Information Centres, promotion of the Geopark

The Vikos-Aoos Geopark aims to
hosts internship programmes for young people, contributing significantly to
training of new scientists, professionals related to geoparks and geo-guides. The reception and integration of new people from
the outdoors in the Geopark, leads to the creation of a network of new
people who, upon completion of their internship, will be ambassadors for
UNESCO Global Geopark of Vikos-Aoos worldwide.
