Vikos-Aoos Geopark: «Two schools from two different countries are collaborating"
and they learn about their local environment»

The country's inaugural online meeting of
project proposal titled “Environmental protection in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park and the Vikos-
Awoou» as part of the Erasmus programme. The project concerns an in-depth understanding of the natural
environment and the need to protect it in two areas of high
of environmental importance which for Greece is the Vikos-Aoos Geopark
For Germany, the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park.
In the project, the file for which was submitted last March and approved
In September, two schools will participate, one from Greece and one from
Germany and specifically the Konitsa High School of the Municipality of the same name and the
Bad Belenburg High School
in the municipality of Wittgenstein in South Westphalia. Both schools are located within
of the geopark or the nature park respectively.
Two groups of students (one from each
country) will explore the values of their place and also of the other region, they will
will see, will compare, will reflect and draw their own
Conclusions on environmental management and protection (landscape,
biodiversity, geodiversity, protection of rare fauna and flora species.
The basic project parameter is
collaboration both among the students and their teachers, but also among the
collaborating support bodies for the drafting and implementation of the proposal
of the project: of the Development Continent SA as the managing body of the Geopark
Vikos–Aoös and the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park management authority.
The approval of the proposal comes as
the result of the close collaboration between the two above entities which began before
a few years with the exchange of working visits to and from both
sides. In these missions, which aimed to explore the wider
areas of cooperation between the two sides, whose areas
fairly similar characteristics, specialised executives from the respective
entities and were implemented with the support of the Greek-German Assembly.
To the online meeting of
2/10/2020 teachers from both schools (Konitsa High School and High School
Bad Belenburg), executives of
Hellenic Society for the Management and Development of the Vikos-Aoos Geopark and of the Management Body of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park and its representative
CPC Konitsa.
