The Vikos-Aoos UNESCO Global Geopark
\nUNESCO welcomed two volunteers from Germany as part of a new
\ncooperation of the Hellenic and German National Commissions for UNESCO,
\nwhich enables Greek UNESCO Global Geoparks to
\nhost young people from Germany to carry out a six-month internship
\nmonths.<\/p>\n

The main aim of the programme is
\nYoung people should join the Greek UNESCO Global Geoparks and participate.
\nIn their various activities as volunteers to gain specialised
\nskills and work experience in actions to promote natural and
\ncultural heritage of Geoparks and to understand the management methods
\nand their operation. The basic expenses of the volunteers are covered by the
\nGerman National Commission for UNESCO.<\/p>\n

The Vikos-Aoos Geopark welcomed the
\ntwo volunteers in March 2021. After attending introductory
\nseminars on geomorphology, geology and the wider natural environment and
\nThe unique cultural elements of the Vikos-Aoos Geopark for the two volunteers
\nthey began their practical training, which is shared between office work
\nand work in the field. They also offer valuable assistance in translating to
\nGerman language for the Geopark's interpretation texts and communication materials,
\nbut also in promoting the Geopark through social media. <\/p>\n

\nTake a look at the unique features of the Geopark, while within the framework of
\ntheir obligations include drawing up small programmes (projects) on topics of
\nGeopark, contribution to the operation of Information Centres, promotion of the Geopark
\nat central events (e.g. Zagori Mountain Running),
\nSupport for joint programmes with Germany (e.g. the secondary school Erasmus programme)

The Vikos-Aoos Geopark aims to
\nhosts internship programmes for young people, contributing significantly to
\ntraining of new scientists, professionals related to geoparks and geo-guides. The reception and integration of new people from
\nthe outdoors in the Geopark, leads to the creation of a network of new
\npeople who, upon completion of their internship, will be ambassadors for
\nUNESCO Global Geopark of Vikos-Aoos worldwide.<\/p>\n
