The operating mechanism is complex and its appearance is a function of the aquifer's intersection by the Voidomatis River. Faults belonging to the Astraka fault zone pass through the location where the spring emerges. The impermeable bedrock of the karst aquifer consists of low-permeability dolomites.<br \/>\nFrom the time series of data collected by the IGME (Institute of Geological and Mineral Exploration) a mean discharge of 1.53 m\u00b3\/sec for the spring is indicated.
